Bangor

Housing award

Judson “Bud” Grant Jr. of Bangor received a Manufactured Housing Association recognition award at the Manufactured Industry Association annual meeting in Portland recently. Gov. John Baldacci presented the award to Grant for the work he has done to further the accomplishments of the manufactured housing industry.

Grant began his career in manufactured housing in 1945 after he finished military service. In 1979 he built Birch Hills Estates, a residential community in Bangor.

Bangor Savings Bank

Bangor Savings Bank will open two offices in Lewiston and Auburn in the next year.

The bank plans to open a commercial services office in downtown Lewiston this fall, and a full-service retail branch in Auburn next year. James Dowe Jr., president and chief executive officer, announced plans during the two-day board of trustees meeting.

“We already have a strong commercial base here with many customers and a growing involvement with local civic and community organizations,” Dowe said.

Bangor Savings Bank will apply for regulatory approval from the Bureau of Financial Institutions when property negotiations are completed.

Stove retailer expansion

Black Stove Inc., Maine’s largest retailer of stove and fireplace products, now is under new ownership. Plans include new stores and additional employees.

Jim Steffensen of Rye, N.Y., acquired Black Stove Shops Inc. last month. Black Stove Inc.’s new president is Frank Tarantino of Freeport.

The Black Stove Shop was founded by Ray and Candace Manocchio in 1975. The Bangor shop – one of five in Maine – is located adjacent to the Bangor Mall, and replaced the Brewer outlet in 1999.
