WINTRHOP – The State YMCA of Maine’s Youth in Government program, a model legislature program that strives to get students involved in state politics and procedures, is accepting applications from all Maine high school students.

Students in the program will spend April 30 and May 1-2 in Augusta, participating in political procedures at the State House. They will elect leaders for the program, including a youth governor, serve as members of the House and Senate, debate the bills they have written and create a newspaper.

Local training sessions will be held regionally: Jan. 24 at Leavitt Area High School in Turner, Jan. 31 at Central Aroostook in Mars Hill, and Feb. 7 at Erskine Academy in South China. Deadline to sign up for the training sessions is Jan. 15.

For information or to apply for the program, write to Maine YMCA Youth In Government, 39 B Highland Ave., Winthrop 04364, or e-mail the office at winymca@aol.com.
