Five passengers injured, driver charged in crash

SOUTH THOMASTON – A Spruce Head woman was charged with not properly restraining a child who was a passenger in the car she was driving during a crash.

Five of six passengers were injured Wednesday when the 1999 Mercury sedan driven by Debra R. Corlis-Brannan drifted off a foggy road. The car hit a concrete block and mailbox before traveling another 200 feet, where it struck a second set of mailboxes and a large tree.

Corlis-Brannan, 32, of Spruce Head and four of her passengers, Davonte T. Corlis, 6, Tasha R. Corlis-Brannan, 1, Jessica R. Johnson, 17, and Michelle L. Crosby, 29, addresses not provided, were taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport after the 9:07 p.m. accident.

Another passenger, Jonathan M. Andrade, 20, was not taken to the hospital.

Corlis-Brannan was charged with carrying a passenger under age 12 and under 100 pounds not secured in a safety seat, Knox County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Todd Butler said Thursday.

The vehicle was heading east on Grierson Road, according to an accident report filed by Deputy Thomas Welch. The vehicle had $3,000 in damage.
