CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Sonia Corriveau’s third-period goal proved to be the game-winner as the University of Maine women’s ice hockey team earned a 3-2 win over Boston College Friday.
Kate Sunstrum scored on a Karen Droog assist 6:05 into the first period for the 2-4-2 Black Bears. Laura Maddin netted a goal in the second period off of a Droog assist and Lara Smart made 20 saves on 22 shots.
Sarah Courtney scored both of the 3-3-0 Eagles’ goals. Nancy Gillis had an assist in the second period while Courtney’s second goal went unassisted at 16:12 in the third period. Lisa Davis stopped 14 of 17 shots.
Volleyball
Albany 3, Maine 1
At Orono, Ashlee Reed had 14 kills and nine digs to help lead Albany past the University of Maine, 30-27, 30-19, 30-32, 30-28.
Ashley DeNeal had 11 kills for 24-8 Albany as Blair Buchanan had 12 digs and Susan Spierre added 11. Shelby Goldman helped with 11 kills.
Kaili Jordan led the 13-19 Black Bears with nine kills, four service aces, and 11 digs. Brooke Truong had 20 digs and Shelly Seipp had 14 digs. Brittany Howe added 14 kills.
Women’s basketball
UM-Fort Kent 78, UMM 74 (OT)
At Fort Kent, the Bengals rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit and eventually pulled out an overtime victory in the first round of the Bengal Tip-Off Classic.
Dana Lemon scored a game-high 22 points and Heidi Fisher tossed in 21 for UMaine-Fort Kent. Julie Clattenburg netted 19 points with four assists and five steals.
Sara Ricker paced UMaine-Machias with 21 points and five assists. Gill Guest contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds while Kelly Welles had 15 points and nine rebounds.
