Outlook: This is the final preseason tuneup for the Black Bears before they open their regular season on the road against Atlantic Coast Conference member Florida State University at Tallahassee, Fla., on Friday. The Bears are looking for improved play from the post position as they refine their four-guard system. Maine coach John Giannini also will continue to evaluate various player combinations as he tinkers with substitutions and matchups. Maine high school and college hoop fans will recognize one name on SportsPower USA’s roster as former Husson College and Portland High star Robert Pilsbury returns to his native state. The former Maine Athletic Conference player of the year ranked eighth among NAIA Division II scorers in the 2001-02 season with a 24.3 points-per-game scoring average. SportsPower USA boasts a tall lineup with no player shorter than 6-3.
