Snowe receives awardfor frugal budgeting

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Olympia J. Snowe has been honored with the Economic Patriot Award by the Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan, grass-roots organization that advocates fiscal responsibility.

Snowe was honored because “she has stood for generationally responsible budget policy throughout her career in Congress,” according to the group. “We are pleased to honor her for her caring about future generations, being willing to work for solutions on a bipartisan basis, and for having the courage to put principles ahead of politics.”

As an example of those qualities, the coalition pointed out Snowe’s unwavering position against the full tax cuts requested by the Bush administration earlier this year.

The award was presented to Snowe in a ceremony at the Pierre Hotel in New York City by Concord Coalition Co-Chairmen and former Sens. Warren Rudman, R-N.H., and Bob Kerrey, D-Neb.
