PRESQUE ISLE – The University of Maine-Presque Isle and UM-Machias men’s basketball teams each won twice over the weekend at the Star City Basketball tournament.
On Sunday, UMPI defeated Boston Baptist 88-50 behind 22 points from tournament MVP Fabian Lennox and Jon Codrey’s 10 points and nine rebounds. UMM edged St. Thomas University 78-74 as Gary Dussard had 19 points and eight rebounds, Bayi Handy scored 15 points and Wayne Clarke added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
In Saturday’s games, Lennox had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead UMPI to a 63-52 win over St. Thomas. Tim Gagnon added 12 points for the Owls.
UMM opened its tournament effort with a 114-52 win over Boston Baptist, as Dussard scored 20 points, Dan Midgley added 16 points and 10 rebounds, Phil Munro had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Donovan Gayle scored 14 points.
Joining Lennox on the all-tournament team were Dussard, Codrey, David Robson of St. Thomas and Marc Corona of Boston Baptist.

UM-Fort Kent wins two
At Fort Kent, the UMaine-Fort Kent Bengals picked up two wins in their Bengal Tip-Off Classic over the weekend.
UMFK beat Northern Maine Community College on Saturday 100-49 and came back to edge Fisher College on Sunday 67-64.
Fisher defeated Unity on Saturday 95-58 and Unity beat NMCC on Saturday 75-54.
On Sunday, Roy Goldstein scored 29 points and had five assists to help lead UMFK. Bartas Samaitis netted 23 points and had eight rebounds for the Bengals and Derrick Cooper had five steals.
Carmine Charles scored 20 points and had four steals for Fisher.
Noah Schneider had 24 points and Jeremy Kervin added 23 to help lead Unity College by NMCC.
Jared Erskine scored 16 points and had nine rebounds for the Rams and Matt Kent had five assists.
Craig Durost netted 23 points and had seven rebounds for NMCC. Josh Poisson scored nine points and had eight rebounds.
On Saturday, Samaitis netted 20 points to power UMFK.
Shane Durost scored 17 points for the Bengals and Goldstein had 13 points and four steals. Mario Goehring had 10 points and six assists and Derrick Cooper scored 10 points and had five steals.
Craig Durost, Ryan Paradis, and Greg Fellis all netted 10 points for Northern Maine Community College.
Carmine Charles netted 53 points and had three steals to lead Fisher past Unity
Josh Nelson had 16 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists for Fisher and Kessen Green had 11 rebounds.
Jeremy Kervin had 29 points and eight rebounds for Unity and Noah Schneider netted 17 points.
UMFK’s Samaitis was named the tourney MVP. Unity’s Kervin, NMCC’s Craig Durost, UMFK’s Goldstein and Fisher’s Green and Charles were named to the All-Tourney team.

Rebecca Holland had 14 kills and 19 digs to lead 10-4 Northeastern. Whitney Turner had 20 kills and Ashley Adamczyk had 14 digs. Shannon Brooker had 12 kills and Briana Furch added 10 kills.

At Chestnut Hill, Mass., Kate Sunstrum scored at 3:26 into the first period on assists by Karen Droog and Vicky Johnstone to help the University of Maine win.
Kelly Law netted a goal off Meagan Aarts and Droog assists at 8:15 in the first period and Naomi Smethurst scored an unassisted goal in the third period. Lara Smart stopped 17 of 18 shots for 3-4-2 Maine.
Kerri Sanders scored on Alaina Clark and Jen Fischl assists with one second left in the first period and Christine Moynihan made 28 saves on 31 shots for 3-4-0 Boston College.
Field hockey
Rowan 2, So. Maine 1 (OT)
At Middlebury, Vt., senior Jackie Massara’s goal with five minutes left in the second overtime lifted defending national chamion Rowan University to a 2-1 win over the University of Southern Maine on Saturday in an NCAA Division III field hockey regional semifinal played at Middlebury Colle%ge.
Southern Maine, which had its 10-game winning streak stopped, took a 1-0 lead when Kerry Leonard tipped a shot by Renee Heath past Rowan goalie Christine Buteas 10 minutes into the match.
Rowan tied the match with just 10:07 left in regulation when Beth Raliegh scored on a rebound.
Buteas made two saves on four shots for 14-3 Rowan. Jessie Superchi made 20 saves on 29 shots for USM, which finishes its season with a 17-6 record.
Women’s soccer
Wheaton 7, UM-Farmington 0
At Norton, Mass., the Lyons outshot the Beavers 37-0 on their way to a victory in an NCAA Division III New England Regional game.
Wheaton, which won its second straight title Sunday with a 3-2 win over Amherst, is the nation’s top-ranked team. Tracy Prihoda and Erica Brennan scored two goals each for the winners.
Patty Boutin made three saves for North Atlantic Conference champion UMaine-Farmington, which finished the season at 17-4-1.

UMPI 62, Nova Scotia AC 44
At Presque Isle, the UMaine-Presque Isle Owls beat Nova Scotia Agricultural College 62-44 on Sunday after losing to St. Thomas 63-46 on Saturday in the Star City Tournament.
On Sunday, Erica McGary scored 20 points to lead the Owls. Monique Daniel added 11 points while Rachel Larlee had eight points and 10 rebounds.
Jenna Tait and Jennifer Pryor each scored 16 points for Nova Scotia Agricultural College.
St. Thomas University of Fredericton, New Brunswick, won Sunday’s other game, defeating Boston Baptist 59-6.
On Saturday, Erin Monahan netted 15 points and had three assists to help lead St. Thomas University by UMPI. McGary led UMPI with 12 points.

UMFK, UMM notch victories
At Fort Kent, UMaine-Fort Kent defeated Unity 72-37 on Sunday and UM-Machias topped Unity 89-24 Saturday in the Bengal Tip-Off Classic.
On Friday night, UMFK edged UMM 78-74 in overtime.
Dana Lemon had 14 points, four assists, and three steals to help lead UMFK on Sunday. Heidi Fisher netted 14 points and had six rebounds and Melissa Hare added 12 points.
Kristen Hewitt had 20 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists for Unity College. Christine Blaksley had 12 points.
On Saturday, Gill Guest had 14 points and 17 rebounds to help lead the UMM to victory.
Sara Ricker netted 20 points for the Clippers. Cassandra Vega had 16 points and Emma Apatu had four steals.
Christine Blakesley had 11 points for the Rams.
On Friday night, the Bengals rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit and eventually pulled the win.
Lemon scored a game-high 22 points and Fisher tossed in 21 for UMFK. Julie Clattenburg netted 19 points with four assists and five steals.
Ricker paced UMaine-Machias with 21 points and five assists. Guest contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds while Kelly Welles had 15 points and nine boards.
