FREDERICTON, N.B. – A summit between New Brunswick and Maine legislators will take place this winter, says a New Brunswick Cabinet minister.

Percy Mockler, the minister of intergovernmental affairs, said the conference will be scheduled in January or February. An exact date should be confirmed Thursday.

The Maine-New Brunswick Legislators Conference was to take place at the end of October in the bordering communities of Edmundston and Madawaska, Maine, and Saint-Leonard and Van Buren, Maine, but was postponed because of scheduling conflicts.

The number of people who wanted to participate in the event was more than expected, Mockler said, and organizers wanted to ensure that both Gov. John Baldacci and Premier Bernard Lord would be in attendance.

The summit, which was originally meant for legislators, will bring together politicians from both jurisdictions as well as those in business and community groups to discuss common issues such as trade and energy.
