Woman arrested in assault at EMMC

Bangor police arrested a woman Tuesday afternoon in the emergency department at Eastern Maine Medical Center after she refused to quiet down and leave.

Officer James Hassard reported that at about 5:20 p.m. he and other officers went to EMMC. Officer Rob Angelo reported that a woman there, Tina Boober, 22, of Brewer had threatened to become violent if her friend was not released. Boober’s friend was undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.

Hassard said they went to a room where staff were speaking with Boober and the patient. Hassard said Boober left the room after repeatedly being told to leave.

Hassard said Boober continually yelled and swore in the hallway outside patient rooms in the emergency room, refusing to leave. Angelo added that Boober threatened to sue the hospital, and the officers, for telling her to leave.

Angelo and Hassard arrested Boober. Hassard said Boober fell to the ground on the way to the door, bit him and spat on Angelo.

Hospital staff brought a wheelchair to the officers, who lifted Boober onto it and wheeled her to a cruiser.

Boober was charged with disorderly conduct and two counts of assault.

A Holden man was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after being hit by a speeding pickup truck in the Eastern Maine Community College parking lot.

Officer Kerry Libby reported that Mathew Paine, 20, of Holden suffered head trauma when a truck driven by William Belanger, 20, of Pittsfield, hit him while driving through the parking lot at about 15 minutes past noon.

Libby said witnesses agreed that Belanger swerved to avoid Paine, but that Paine dodged to the same side. All four witnesses also agreed that Belanger was driving “way too fast,” Libby said, two of them adding, “He was driving like a maniac.”

Belanger was summoned for driving to endanger. Paine was reported to be in fair condition at Eastern Maine Medical Center on Tuesday night.

Brewer police are investigating a burglary and vandalism that occurred over last weekend.

Somebody reportedly broke into the Eastern Maine Healthcare construction site on Wilson Street, the report said, forcing open two vending machines, causing thousands of dollars in damage, and making off with an unknown amount of cash. Two laser transits were also taken from a toolbox.

If you have information about this case, please call the Brewer police at 989-7001.
