Hampden woman totals car in Bangor accident

A Hampden woman was taken to the hospital when her car struck an SUV in Bangor Wednesday night.

Ashley Knowles, 18, of Hampden complained of bruises after her Mazda 626 collided with a GMC Envoy SUV at the intersection of Griffin Road and Ohio Street, demolishing the Mazda, according to Bangor police Officer Steve Jordan.

Jordan said it appeared that at about 8:45 p.m. Lori Omlor, 37, of Glenburn, driving the Envoy, drove straight through the intersection on a green light. Knowles, coming the other way, tried to make a left turn, driving the front end of her Mazda straight into the left front corner of the SUV.

Omlor said the impact spun the crushed Mazda around on the road. Jordan said he believed Knowles was not badly hurt.

Bangor police had a woman taken to jail on a stretcher Tuesday night, when she refused to leave a Bangor man’s apartment.

Officer Dan Herrick reported that at about 7:45 p.m. he went to a Fairmount Park West apartment at the request of the Fire Department. Herrick said he found a man there holding an ice pack to a purple bruise above his eye.

The man told Herrick, “Anna threw the phone at me,” indicating a woman, Anna-Maria Oday, who was lying on the floor. The man told Herrick he didn’t think Oday had meant to hit him.

Herrick said Oday admitted throwing the phone in the man’s direction, but said she didn’t mean to hit him.

When the man said he wanted Oday to leave, she refused. Herrick warned Oday that she would be arrested if she refused to leave, but she still refused to move.

Herrick arrested Oday. He said firefighters and emergency medical personnel at the scene put Oday on a stretcher and put her in an ambulance, which they drove to Penobscot County Jail.

A man found in violation of parole was arrested early Wednesday in Bangor.

Officer Wade Betters reported that just past midnight, he was dispatched to assist other officers in detaining a group of men who reportedly had been seen carrying bats and golf clubs.

Betters spoke with Joshua Cass, 19, of Bangor. Cass said he had come downtown with his friends to “watch over” them. Cass allegedly said the men had come downtown to confront a man he called “Spider,” who never showed up.

Betters said Sgt. Tom Reagan found an aluminum baseball bat and an 8-iron lying nearby. Betters said Cass told him they belonged to his friends.

Betters arrested Cass, who was on parole, because he was out past his curfew.

Betters said most of the men in the group were wearing white bandanas, but Cass told him they didn’t consider themselves a gang.
