Warden Deputies are volunteers who must be at least 21 years of age, sponsored by a warden and warden supervisor. They have passed the physical, written, and oral exams, as well as a full background check and polygraph examination. They need to have completed the reserve officer training program approved by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, attend all warden-in-service training, qualify with a firearm twice a year, and continue required training through the CJA. Each year, they must work a minimum of 100 hours as a deputy.
