GARLAND – A Garland man who crashed his vehicle while allegedly inebriated was arrested Saturday and taken to Penobscot County Jail.

Timothy Paccagnella, 56, who recently moved to Maine from Wisconsin, will make his initial court appearance Jan. 7 in Newport District Court on a charge of operating while under the influence of intoxicants.

His blood-alcohol level was recorded as .28, nearly 31/2 the legal limit, according to Penobscot County sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Tibbetts.

Paccagnella was traveling on Oliver Hill Road toward Garland at 4:45 p.m. when he lost control of his 1997 Ford Explorer on a curve, Tibbetts said. The Explorer was demolished.

Tibbetts said Paccagnella’s wife, Sally, 54, a passenger in the truck, suffered a head injury. She was treated at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft and released.

One of two Brittany spaniels that were riding in the truck was still at large Saturday, according to the officer.
