Orono police arrested a Massachusetts man Tuesday evening on an OUI charge.

Sgt. Josh Ewing reported that at about 6 p.m. a man driving in the left lane on Route 2 near Fleet Bank apparently tried to cross the right lane and enter the bank’s parking lot.

Ewing said the pickup truck, driven by Clarence Dorey, 48, of South Yarmouth, Mass., collided with a car in the right lane. Nobody was hurt, Ewing said, but Ewing did notice a smell of alcohol coming from Dorey.

Dorey was arrested after performing poorly on sobriety tests. A breath test registered a blood alcohol content of 0.33 percent, Ewing said. Another Orono officer noted that with that much alcohol in his system, “he shouldn’t be driving – he shouldn’t even be conscious.”

Bangor police arrested a man on a charge of drunken driving early Wednesday morning after he allegedly burned rubber for a whole block.

Officer Wade Betters reported that at about 1:30 a.m. he stopped on Cumberland Street behind a pickup truck at the intersection with Broadway. Betters said he heard the truck’s engine rev, then heard the tires squeal.

The truck sped through the intersection, Betters said, and continued squealing until it turned onto Essex Street, where Betters stopped the truck. He later measured the rubber mark at 82 feet.

Betters spoke with the driver, Timothy Rolland, 26. Betters said he smelled alcohol as they spoke. The officer said Rolland told him, “You got me,” and explained that he “was just being stupid.”

Betters arrested Rolland after he admitted he had had a lot to drink, and performed poorly on sobriety tests. Rolland was released at the station on his own recognizance.

Old Town police arrested a Portland man early Wednesday after he allegedly threw a glass at another bar patron.

Officer Brent Fournier reported that at about 1 a.m. the dispatcher received a 911 hang-up from the Riverfront Pub on Water Street. When he arrived, the bar owner told Fournier that a patron had thrown a glass at another patron’s head and then left.

Fournier said he met the suspect, later identified as Daryl Coleman, 29, of Portland, walking on the Center Street Bridge. Fournier said Coleman kept asking who he was. He said Coleman also kicked him.

Coleman was arrested and charged with assault and aggravated assault.
