Mother Angela Awards presented

BANGOR – St. Joseph Healthcare and the sponsoring Felician Sisters celebrated Founder’s Day, Nov. 21 by presenting the annual Mother Mary Angela Awards in the St. Joseph Chapel.

One award was given in three categories – clinical employee, nonclinical employee and volunteer. Recipients continue the mission of Blessed Mother Mary Angela, who on Nov. 21, 1855, founded the Felician Sisters. Recipients were nominated by their peers, then chosen by St. Joseph Healthcare’s mission advisory committee comprising SJH employees. This year’s award recipients are:

. Lainie Hill, licensed practical nurse of the medical unit, clinical.

. Bethany McKnight of the Public Affairs and Development Department, non-clinical.

. Milly Ranney, front desk, volunteer.

Hill, of Carmel, joined St. Joseph Healthcare in 1991 and has worked in many patient areas. For the past five years she has been a licensed practical nurse on the medical unit where she enjoys caring for those in need. Hill was unaware that she had been nominated for the award and “was shocked and quite pleased” when she was told that she was one of the recipients.

McKnight, a Maine native, has been employed at St. Joseph Healthcare for nearly six years. McKnight has been the director of public affairs-development volunteers for almost four years. She worked in all capacities of the office before becoming director. She is responsible for internal and external communications of the organization, including press relations, marketing, advertising and fund raising.

“I am extremely honored to have been chosen for this award and feel truly blessed to be working at St. Joseph Healthcare,” McKnight said.

Ranney, a front desk volunteer for the past 24 years, enjoys assisting visitors when they come to the front desk.

“I enjoy volunteering at St. Joseph Hospital because I like the interaction with the people who come in, and also the people I work with,” Ranney said. A member of St. Joseph Healthcare for many years, Ranney said she feels “very honored” to receive the award.
