GREENVILLE – The Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation recently awarded Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home $100,000 for capital improvements related to its master facility plan upgrades.

The contribution represents one of the capital campaign’s largest gifts.

The renovation and construction plan created five years ago is being re-evaluated to reflect changes in health care. The first of three phases of the campaign are now complete.

With the last significant building construction in 1967, key facilities are in need of upgrades and repairs, the hospital says, and new construction that is tailored to C.A. Dean’s needs is essential. Without this new construction, C.A. Dean will be forced to make more expensive and less effective upgrades to the facility in the future.

“We need to continue providing high-quality health care,” Geno Murray, C.A. Dean president and chief executive officer, said this week. “For this to happen, we need a physical plant that is patient- and medical-provider-friendly and efficient.” Members of administration have met with engineers and are re-evaluating the plan to ensure that it continues to meet the organization’s needs, he said.

C.A. Dean continues to receive capital campaign pledges and gifts from its employees, medical staff, board, and community benefactors. Soliciting foundations represents another strategy for receiving funding for the project.

Since spring, C.A. Dean has received a total of $175,000 in grants from the Davis Family Foundation, The Libra Foundation, Plum Creek Foundation and the King Foundation.
