WATERVILLE – Brandon McGowan poured in 39 points and hit nine 3-pointers as the Colby College White Mules defeated the Husson College Braves 85-72 in men’s basketball action Saturday to capture the Maine Event Tournament.
Matt Forlizzi scored 14 points for Colby and Nick Loukes added 10.
Dwayne Ailey led the Braves of Bangor with 22 points. Jeff White notched 16 and Bill Beauregard 11.
The University of Southern Maine beat Saint Joseph’s in the consolation game 64-58.
Mike Francoeur tossed in 16 points to lead USM, Jason Levecque added 15 and Ryan Garland had 12. Jesse McKinnell had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Noah LaRoche was the top scorer for the Monks of Standish with 21 points. Steve Monteiro added 14 and Mike Stallings 12.

Harvard 6, Maine 0
At Cambridge, Mass., Saturday, two-time United States Olympian Angela Ruggiero scored a pair of goals and assisted on two more as undefeated Harvard collected its fifth shutout in six games.
Harvard, which beat New Hampshire 2-1 on Sunday, is now 7-0 and off to its best start in the program’s history. Harvard has outscored its opponents 42-2.
Nicole Corriero and Kat Sweet also scored two goals apiece and Jennifer Raimondi had three assists in Saturday’s triumph.
Corriero’s 13th goal of the season, coming on the power play, represented the only scoring in the first period despite a 17-4 Crimson shot advantage.
Sweet notched both of her goals in the second period after Ruggiero had made it 2-0 2:55 into the period.
Emily Vitt made 17 saves in posting the shutout while Lara Smart finished with 31 saves for the 4-7-2 Black Bears.
