A report of theft at Young’s Market in Bangor Saturday turned into the arrest of a juvenile for allegedly operating a motor vehicle after suspension.
Elizabeth Morang, store clerk at Young’s, called police after she reportedly saw a juvenile stealing a candy bar. Bangor police Officer Daniel Herrick responded to the call.
Morang produced a videotape of the alleged theft, which she gave to Herrick, along with the license plate number and description of the truck that left Young’s after the incident.
Officer Herrick identified the vehicle, a 1993 Chevrolet pick-up, as belonging to Henry Diphillipo of 208 Pearl St. in Bangor. Herrick stopped by the Diphillipo home, where he was told Anthony Diphillipo, 17, was probably driving the truck.
Herrick met the pickup on Main Street at the traffic light in front of the Grasshopper Shop, and matched the plate number and description with the one Morang had given him.
There were three occupants in the vehicle and Herrick asked the driver to pull over after the light turned green.
The driver was identified as Anthony Diphillipo, 17, of Bangor, who admitted to Herrick that his license was under suspension. Herrick placed Anthony under arrest and the youth was taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he was booked on a charge of operating after suspension.
The other male occupant in Diphillipo’s truck, Thomas Daries, 17, of Bangor, was summoned on the theft that took place at Young’s, though Daries denied taking anything.

A man allegedly speeding down Route 43 in Old Town was charged with operating after suspension, criminal speeding and possession of marijuana Sunday afternoon after he was pulled over by Old Town Police Officer Roy Peary.
Joshua Tidwell, 20, of Old Town, was clocked at 76 miles per hour in a 45-mph zone, according to Peary, who pursued the green pickup as it neared a sharp corner.
Tidwell’s pickup veered off the road and into the woods after the turn, according to Peary, who said the truck probably couldn’t have handled the turn at that speed.
Peary discovered that Tidwell had a warrant out for his arrest for failing to appear in court on a theft charge. Peary arrested him and added charges of operating after suspension, criminal speeding and possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
