Outlook: The Black Bears are looking to build on a strong start. Despite the loss of scorer Jermaine Jackson, who could be out for the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, and captain Ludmil “Udo” Hadjisotirov, who will miss 1-2 more weeks with a sprained ankle, the Bears have been successful with a versatile group that allows coach John Giannini to go with a three- or four-guard lineup. Maine big men Dubois and Flavin have hit the court running offensively and defensively as they take over the post for the Bears. Guard Freddy Petkus is filling some of the shooting void left by Jackson and Hadjisotirov. The Crimson have struggled early, averaging 18 turnovers a game, being outrebounded by opponents 120-107, and shooting just 30.9 percent from the floor. Maine is outshooting opponents 46.4 percent to 35.2 percent and is averaging 42.8 rebounds per game.
