ROQUE BLUFFS – The identity of the badly decomposed body that washed ashore Sunday afternoon at Roque Bluffs State Park has not yet been determined.

The state Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta conducted an autopsy Monday. The dead person was male, but nothing more will be known until DNA results are returned, according to examiners.

That could take as long as a week, according to the office.

The partially clothed body was spotted by people walking along the beach around 3 p.m., Sgt. Jay Carroll of the Maine Marine Patrol said.

“He was probably pushed up by the big storm surge and a pretty good tide,” Carroll said.

Responding agencies included the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, the Maine State Police and the Maine Marine Patrol.
