AUBURN – A grand jury in Androscoggin County has indicted a jail guard on a gross sexual assault charge for allegedly having a female inmate perform oral sex on him while he was on duty.

The guard, Richard Adams of Auburn, was ordered to appear in Androscoggin County Superior Court to face the charge.

Adams, 30, was placed on administrative leave after the alleged incident in October. The 25-year-old woman involved in the case had been serving time for assault.

It is a crime in Maine for anyone in authority in a jail or prison to have sex with an inmate regardless of whether the act is consensual.
