EMCC downs Unity Arbuckle leads Eagles by Rams

UNITY – Kyle Arbuckle scored 27 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as Eastern Maine Community College edged Unity 58-50 in men’s college basketball action Friday night.

Joseph Dionne added 10 points for EMCC, which led 24-17 at intermission.

Adam Beaulieu pulled down 12 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.

Noah Schneider scored 13 points and Jared Erskine 10 to pace Unity.

Colgate 70, New Hampshire 66

DURHAM, N.H. – Mark Linebaugh led four Raiders in double figures with 17 points to lead Colgate to a 70-66 win over New Hampshire on Friday.

Colgate (3-2) jumped to a 38-26 lead in the first half paced by 6-10 shooting from behind the arc. The Raiders extended the lead to 18 at 55-37 five minutes into the second half.

New Hampshire (2-3) cut the lead to seven on an 11-0 run with 10 minutes left. The Wildcats continued to climb back into the game, cutting the lead to one, 63-62, after a Craig Walls jumper with four minutes remaining. But Colgate regrouped on Jon Simon’s five points in the final minutes.

Walls scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in setting a career high for points and rebounds.

Women’s basketball

Unity 48, EMCC 40 (OT)

At Johnston Gym in Bangor, Lindsey Smith scored six of her game-high 20 points in overtime to lead the Rams to the win.

Kristen Hewitt posted 11 points for Unity, and Christine Blakesley added 10.

Alicia Drost and Stephanie Kennedy scored eight points each for the Eastern Maine Community College Golden Eagles.

At Northfield, Vt., Ashley Carlisle scored 14 points and Kaitlin Mulgrew and Rebecca Segert added 12 each as the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy advanced to Saturday’s championship game of the Hockenbury Tournament hosted by Norwich University.

Julia Knights scored 13 points and Michelle Gott added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Maine Maritime Academy.
