Falcon nest sites

A state-by-state list of the 125 active peregrine falcon nest sites in New York and New England in 2003, was compiled by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The birds, which had disappeared from the Northeast, have made a comeback in the cities as well as the mountains after the banning of the pesticide DDT, and restoration efforts in the 1970s.

. New York, 49 pairs, 20 on bridges and buildings.

. Vermont, 29 pairs, one on a building.

. Maine, 16 pairs, two on buildings and bridges.

. New Hampshire, 16 pairs, one on building.

. Massachusetts, 10 pairs, eight on buildings and bridges.

. Connecticut, five pairs, four on buildings and bridges.

. Rhode Island, two pairs, one on a bridge and one on a building.
