Magnusson sparks UMF

WATERVILLE – Travis Magnusson of Thomaston scored 26 points and former Lawrence High star Trafton Teague hit three of four shots from the foul line in the final 35 seconds to give University of Maine-Farmington men a 74-71 basketball win over Colby Saturday.

Teague finished with 20 while Luke Nielsen had 15 points and 15 rebounds for the UMF Beavers.

Patrick McGowan scored 26 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Mules. Andrew Jenkins added 14 points.

St. Joseph’s loses two

At Standish, Worcester State beat St. Joseph’s 58-57 Sunday after Wesleyan (Conn.) defeated St. Joe’s on Saturday in the SJC Cole Farms Classic Tourney.

Wesleyan went on to beat Bates of Lewiston 52-51 to win the tourney tit5le.

On Sunday, Jennifer Harris led the way with 12 points and three others had 10 apiece for Worcester State.

Morgan Brownlee scored 14 points and Laura Pelkey of Bangor added 13 to lead the Saint Joseph’s Monks.

On Saturday, Hannah Stubbs scored 17 points to lead Wesleyan (Conn.) to the win. Pelkey paced St. Joe’s with 12 points and Abbie Rice put in 11.
