DiFrederico, LeGassey lift Stearns by MA

LINCOLN – Derek DiFrederico and Matt LeGassey combined for 51 points to lead the Stearns Minutemen to a 65-57 schoolboy basketball victory over the Mattanawcook Academy Lynx Tuesday night.

DiFrederico finished with 27 points and LeGassey 24 for Stearns, which led 20-7 after the first quarter.

Dan Langevin led 1-1 Mattanawcook with 14 points.

At Pittsfield, Matt St. John scored 24 points and backcourt mate Charlie Calligan added 18 for the Black Bears

Trailing by 13 points at halftime, MCI rallied to tie the game at 51-51 entering the fourth quarter. But Maranacook pulled away, as Calligan scored 10 points, Logan Gerrity eight and St. John six over the game’s final eight minutes.

Gerrity finished with 13 points for Maranacook.

Mike Godfrey led MCI with 22 points, while Mike Adams scored 17 and Taisuke Hayama added 13.

Tom Bird’s game-high 18 points, including 16 in the second half, and Neil Cowan’s 13 paced Lee Academy.

Oliver finished with a team-high 20 points and he also pulled down six rebounds, Greg Crupi netted 16 points and Mike Worster had 10 points and six rebounds.

Anthony Greenlaw’s game-high 31 points sparked Mount View. Matt Higgins scored 16 points and Roy Goodale had 15 more.

Tyler Pelkey and Josh Harmon each scored a goal for 0-1 Stearns of Millinocket. Matt Huston had an assist. Jay Kim and Mike McVey combined to make 36 saves on 44 shots.
