Scoring balance sparks Brewer Saunders makes 21 saves in win

WINSLOW – Five different players scored a goal to help the Brewer Witches defeat the Skowhegan Indians 5-2 in the mutual high school hockey opener at Sukee Arena Wednesday night.

Matt Grimes, Eamon Harding, Ben Caldwell, Devin Fitzpatrick and Andrew Patterson each had a goal for the winners. Aaron Saunders had 21 saves on 23 shots.

Scott Libby and Jake Robitaille scored for the Indians. Jared Johnson and Ben Jordan combined for 17 saves on 22 shots.

Boys basketball

WA Raiders 76, J-B Royals 46

At East Machias, Whitney Stevens poured in 24 points as the Raiders sailed past Jonesport-Beals.

Jared Gray had 19 points and eight steals for the winners and Ryan Harmon added 16 points and five steals.

Abraham Beal tossed in 22 to lead the Royals.
