MILFORD – The town is offering a $100 reward to anyone with information about who destroyed part of the town’s Christmas decorations.

One of the automated deer that was part of the town’s Christmas scene in the park was vandalized sometime late Wednesday or early Thursday. The decorations are put up each year by the town’s recreation committee. “This is just enough,” said acting Town Manager Dawn Cyr. She also is the head of the recreation committee.

Last summer someone pulled up all the flowers planted at the park, and there has been some other minor damage to the park in the past, but enough is enough, Cyr said Friday.

The deer is about the size of a fawn and is worth approximately $50. Its legs were broken off and the body was crushed, according to police reports.

“It would be easy to damage or break,” Maine State Police Trooper Michael Johnston said Friday. “It was completely demolished.”

The vandalism took place in a well-lighted, heavily traveled area, and police are hoping someone will come forward with information.

“There were three other deer just like it and they weren’t disturbed,” Johnston said.

All police have to go on are some footprints in the area that weren’t good enough impressions to make castings from. Johnston took photos of the area, but has no suspects.

Anyone who might have seen anything or has information is encouraged to call the Milford town office at 827-2072 or the Maine State Police Orono barracks at 866-2121.
