Uhrin lifts Hampden past JB Player hits winning FT

HAMPDEN – Jay Uhrin was fouled as time expired in the fourth quarter and scored his only point of the game by sinking a free throw with no time left on the clock to lift Hampden Academy to a season-opening 54-53 boys basketball victory over John Bapst.

Blaine Meehan led all scorers with 18 points for Hampden. Sam Hodgdon and Josh McNutt tossed in 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Alex Means paced the Crusaders of Bangor with 16 points.
