Sports cards theft leads to stolen car, arrest of West Brooklin man

A report of theft Friday night at the Brewer Wal-Mart led to the arrest of a West Brooklin man for a probation violation.

Brewer police Officer Anthony Pinnette responded to a call at 9:05 p.m. from a Wal-Mart employee who said a man had stolen a box of sports cards valued at approximately $460, according to Pinnette’s report.

Pinnette pursued the man, who was on foot, and found him walking near Downeast Toyota on Wilson Street. Pinnette identified the man as Jeremy Duddy, 29.

Pinnette escorted Duddy back to Wal-Mart, where Brewer police Lt. Perry Antoine had a witness waiting to identify the suspect. The witness also said Duddy had tried to get into a vehicle after leaving Wal-Mart but couldn’t find his keys.

Pinnette found the cards in a 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix, which the officer later found to be stolen. Pinnette also learned Duddy was on probation and placed him under arrest for violating probation.

Duddy was taken to Penobscot County Jail and charged with theft, unauthorized use of property, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A homeless man was arrested late Saturday night for theft of services after he ordered ice cream at Howard Johnson’s Restaurant in Bangor but couldn’t pay.

Adam S. Davidson, 31, formerly of Nova Scotia, entered the restaurant and asked for peppermint ice cream, according to Bangor police Officer Daniel Herrick’s report.

An employee at the restaurant said Davidson didn’t have any money to pay for the ice cream, but told the employee he might have some in his car.

Davidson left the restaurant but returned almost immediately and started to get loud and belligerent, according to a statement by the employee.

Herrick and two other Bangor police officers responded to the call at 11:30 p.m. and escorted Davidson from Howard Johnson’s. Herrick said the man was uncooperative and argumentative and the officer placed Davidson under arrest on charges of theft of services and criminal trespassing.

Davidson said he lived in a van that was parked in the parking lot at Howard Johnson’s. Herrick had the vehicle towed.
