Big School (Classes A-B)

MATTHEW BURNS

Burns, a senior wrestler at Ellsworth, became the school’s career match win leader in a meet at Penobscot Valley High in Howland. The son of Eagles coach J.F. Burns has a career record of 120-18. The team is off to a 10-0 start.

Small School (Classes C-D)

WHITNEY STEVENS

Stevens, a senior guard for the Washington Academy basketball team, led the unbeaten Raiders to wins over Jonesport-Beals and Calais that improved coach Chad Fitzsimmons’ club to 5-0. He scored a team-high 24 points in a 76-46 home victory over Jonesport-Beals, then scored 23 points against Calais in a 65-54 win on the road Tuesday night.

GIRLS

Big School (Classes A-B)

NATASHA DESCHENE

The Presque Isle junior guard averaged 16 points in three wins as the Wildcats ran their record to 4-0 this season. She had seven assists in a 63-47 basketball victory over Fort Kent last week.

Small School (Classes C-D)

SHELBY PICKERING

Lee Academy’s junior forward scored 11 of her 23 points in the fourth quarter of the Class D Pandas’ 48-44 win over Class C Mattanawcook Tuesday. She also had 14 rebounds. Pickering had 21 points against Class C Calais Saturday, including the winning basket with 18 seconds left in a 54-52 victory.
