Beal helps lead Broncos to win Strong third pivotal for Hampden

HAMPDEN – The Hampden Academy Broncos outscored the Nokomis Warriors 12-2 in the third quarter en route to a 31-25 schoolgirl basketball win over the Nokomis Warriors Wednesday night.

Jill Beal tossed in 12 points to lead Hampden and Kim Stephenson added seven.

Tiffany Carter notched eight points for the Warriors of Newport.

At Dayton Arena on the Bowdoin College campus in Brunswick, Mark Rogers scored a goal and notched two assists to lead the Eagles of Topsham.

Drew Erickson, Jot Johnson, Jesse Schneider, Josh Bartlett, Jordan Birchrest and Matt Bernier each added a goal for the 2-1 winners. Kris Morgan made seven saves on nine shots.

Marc Relford scored off a Sonny Dunbar assist for 1-2 Brewer and Reid McLaughin converted off assists from Dunbar and Jake Richter. Aaron Saunders made eight saves on 11 shots in the first period and Anthony Puiia finished the next two periods with 16 saves on 20 shots.

Hermon 62, Orono 49

At Orono, Jesse Keith scored nine of his 27 points in the fourth quarter to hold off an Orono rally and give the undefeated Hawks the win.

Adam Duplisea chipped in with 12 points for the Red Riots.

Ryan Levesque paced Orono with 14 points, including eight in the third quarter when the Riots cut Hermon’s 17-point lead down to eight. Alyosha Klose put in 11 points and Lance Cowan netted 10.

Brett Hutchinson paced Georges Valley of Thomaston with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Wilgus provided 16 points and seven assists. A.J. Staples contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds and Matt Judkins added 11 points.

Mike Norton paced Boothbay with a game-high 22 points. Ray Arsenault netted 13.
