DEXTER – Town officials are taking a Brewer man to court over what they believe is a violation of a local ordinance.

The issue is over a camp constructed by Ronald Hewes on Lake Wassookeag. Hewes was given permission to remove an existing camp on the lot and rebuild, but town officials say the new construction exceeds the permit provided to him.

The main problem is that the roof rafters increase the volume of the structure far more than local laws allow, according to Bill Murphy, Dexter’s code enforcement officer.

Murphy will represent the town at the Jan. 9 trial, to be held in Penobscot County Superior Court. The case is a district court matter, but because of space constraints it is being held at the Superior Court.
