Banknorth Group Inc.

Banknorth Group, with headquarters in Portland, has acquired CCBT Financial Companies Inc., the parent company of Cape Cod Bank and Trust Company, in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $300 million.

The terms of the agreement call for outstanding shares of CCBT Financial to be converted into 1.084 shares of Banknorth common stock, plus cash in lieu of fractional share interest, valuing CCBT at $35 per share based on Banknorth’s closing common stock price of $32 on Dec. 5.

Banknorth Group’s banking subsidiary, Banknorth N.A., operates banking divisions in New York and New England, including Peoples Heritage Bank in Bangor.

Starting a business

A three-part self-employment workshop will be offered to those thinking of starting a business and who would like guidance on how to develop a business plan.

The workshop will be held 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 15, 22 and 29, at the Target Technology Center, 20 Godfrey Drive, Orono. The sessions will cover assessing one’s skills for business, the business plan outline, marketing and the lifeblood of a business cash flow.

The workshop is sponsored by the Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community and the Women’s Business Center at Coastal Enterprises Inc.
