MONSON – No one was injured when an ambulance hit a patch of ice and rolled onto its side Wednesday morning on Route 15.

Originating from Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home in Greenville, the ambulance was taking a patient to Bangor around 9 a.m., according to hospital president Geno Murray.

“The environmental conditions changed and we hit some ice and the ambulance ended up on its side,” Murray said.

As it was a nonemergency situation, the vehicle was traveling 25 to 30 mph and its lights and sirens were not on at the time of the accident, he said.

An ambulance crew from Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft took the patient the rest of the way to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Guilford and Monson fire departments also were at the scene.
