Two men were arrested in separate incidents of drunken driving over the weekend at the intersection of Ohio Street and Griffin Road in Bangor.

A store clerk reported at 10:30 p.m. Saturday that an intoxicated man recently had left the store and driven away, according to police reports. Police located the man’s blue Volkswagen Jetta turning off Pine Ledge Road onto Ohio Street and pulled over the driver, who later was identified as Walter Sawyer, 26, of Hudson. Sawyer’s eyes were bloodshot and glossy, and his knuckles were bleeding, according to reports.

Sawyer said he had punched his car’s dashboard after being kicked out of Heritage Bowling Lanes.

Sawyer failed field sobriety testing and was arrested for operating under the influence. A butterfly knife was discovered in the driver’s side door of his vehicle, according to reports.

Sawyer later refused further sobriety tests and was charged with failing to sign summonses.

Jason Francisco, 26, of Bangor was arrested for operating under the influence after stopping suddenly at a flashing red light at the Ohio Street-Griffin Road intersection.

Officer Wade Betters followed Francisco’s vehicle to Glenview Drive at 2:45 a.m. Sunday after he observed the car speeding. Francisco’s eyes were bloodshot and he smelled of alcohol, according to reports.

Francisco said he had consumed about four beers but was acting as a designated driver for friends leaving a birthday party. After field sobriety testing, Francisco said he actually had consumed a six-pack of beer, finishing his last drink about 45 minutes earlier.

A test registered Francisco’s blood alcohol content at 0.16 percent, twice the legal limit. He was issued a criminal summons for operating under the influence and was released from custody.
