Quimby scores 20 as Brewer nabs first win

BANGOR – Katie Quimby poured in a game-high 20 points, including four three-pointers, to lead the Brewer High School girls basketball team to a 62-34 win over John Bapst of Bangor at the Bangor Auditorium Tuesday night.

Amy Freeman scored 11 points and Jordan McLain had nine more.

Lauren Hunter’s 16 points and Katie Andrle’s eight led John Bapst.

Caitlyn Grant added nine points for the winners.

Victoria Huff, Megan Dodge and Kasey Dodge had 11 points each for MCI and Megan Ferland had nine more. Huff added six assists while Ashley Currier and Macky Sullivan had nine rebounds each and Sullivan dished out five assists.

Barrett had 16 points to lead the Hawks and Mayo finished with 13. April Brown scored 11.

At Pittsfield, junior Phil Hendricks was plagued by foul trouble, but scored 11 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter, including the game-winner, to complete the Huskies’ comeback.

Hendricks scored on a back-door layup off a set play with seven seconds remaining to give MCI the win. Ryan Bennett contributed 10 points for the Huskies.

Greg Crupi’s 14 points led Rockland, while Wade Oliver chipped in with 11.

Deer Isle-Stonington went 9-for-13 from the foul line in the fourth quarter.

Eaton also wound up with eight rebounds.

Josh Eaton had 13 points and Tom Robbins contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Neil Cowan’s 14 points, Nate Dow’s 13 and Tom Bird’s 11 points powered Lee Academy.

At Bangor’s Husson College, Matt Cummings, Joey Cyr and Garrett Lavertu combined for 17 fourth-quarter points as Penobscot Valley of Howland overcame a seven-point deficit to nab its first win.

Lavertu finished with 15 points, Cummings had 12 and Drew Hallett teamed up with Cyr for 17 more.

Jon Pike’s game-high 18 points, Eric Sobey’s 17, Matt Denbow’s 10 points and D.J. McCleary’s nine rebounds led Bangor Christian.

At the Northern Maine Forum in Presque Isle, Joe Collins scored five goals to lead the Presque Isle Wildcats to victory.

Ryan Cyr had a goal and two assists for Presque Isle. Ted Gagnon scored a goal and Trevor Graves assisted on two goals. Bryan Fowler made nine saves on 13 shots.

Mitch Sawyer had two goals and an assist to lead the Ponies. Adam Conway and David White each scored a goal. Jonathan Latell had 27 saves on 34 shots.

Hoult.-Hodgdon 3, John Bapst 2

At Houlton’s Millar Arena, Ian Pasquarelli capped a nice individual effort by firing the puck past Crusader goalie Dan Leighton with 3:59 remaining to give Houlton-Hodgdon its third victory in four games.

Brothers Micah and Kevin Carton had the other Blackhawk goals. Grady Anderson and Andy Clark had assists and Aaron Fitzpatrick and Nic Joslyn combined for 15 saves.

David Cyr had a goal and an assist for 1-3 John Bapst. Tyler Cyr had the other goal, Kim Meagher and T.J. Hopkins had assists and Leighton finished with 43 saves.
