Museum offers children’s programs

BANGOR – Beginning Jan. 14, children in grades four and five are invited to act up, ring and sing and dance up a storm at the Maine Discovery Museum. Arts ‘N’ Kids will give youngsters the chance to have fun while gaining performing experience and enhancing their natural artistic skills.

There will be three sessions of Arts ‘N’ Kids, each lasting four weeks and meeting two afternoons a week at the children’s museum. Sessions begin at 3:30 p.m. The museum will provide a snack for attendees and the one-hour class will follow, ending at 5 p.m.

Session One, Acting and Theatre Games, meets Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, from Jan. 14 through Feb. 5, under the direction of A.J. Mooney.

Sessions Two and Three of Arts ‘N’ Kids will focus on handbell ringing and singing with Jackie Frisk on Tuesday and Thursday, beginning Feb. 24. Creative movement with Kelly Holyoke will be Thursday and Friday, beginning April 1.

Acting teacher A.J. Mooney received a master’s degree from the Actors Studio in New York and has an extensive background in theater, including off-Broadway performances.

Her experience with young actors ranges from Shakespeare in the Schools for the Penobscot Theatre Company to a recent production of Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax,” which she wrote and directed with children at the Eddington School.

Children may sign up for one, two or three sessions. Each session is limited to 12 children and regular attendance is required. For information and registration, call the Maine Discovery Museum at 262-7200.
