But you still need to activate your account.
It’s a privilege, on Christmas Day, to send readers our wishes for a peaceful holiday season and many blessings in the new year.
As I write this, I’m thinking of a couple of milestones The Weekly reached over the past couple of months: 12 years as a newspaper and two years in its new version under the Bangor Daily News.
Issues of The Weekly inserted in the Bangor Daily News on Thursdays, and those mailed out to homes in Greater Bangor, total 51,000 newspapers a week.
I can’t tell you how much fun it is to put out this newspaper – the feature stories, Senior Beat, the community news, school news and achievements, new businesses, sports events, columns and the ever-popular Weekly Question.
So often, readers ask me where the questions come from. We get them from employees of The Weekly and the NEWS – and even from readers. Every few weeks, I meet with other editors to bat around ideas for the Weekly Question.
An especially popular feature with both readers and our own staff is the Picture of the Past, which is packaged with the Yesterday column. Librarian Charlie Campo does a wonderful job digging out old pictures for us, and Ardeana Hamlin has a great eye for interesting tidbits for the Yesterday page; she spends many an hour looking at old newspapers on microfilm.
A few housekeeping duties we would like to take care of:
. Classified advertising for The Weekly has a new fax number: 990-8041. Please note that the NEWS has not changed its classified fax number. In addition, both The Weekly and the NEWS editorial departments continue to use the fax number 941-9476.
. If your group has a notice running in either the Calendar or Support Groups sections in the Weekly, please check that it is up to date. If our information is old, or if the activity isn’t taking place right now, please let us know so we don’t mislead readers about events that are no longer offered.
If you are sending Calendar items to The Weekly or the NEWS, you should send them to both newspapers if your intent is for the items to appear in both.
To submit information to us, mail it to The Weekly, P.O. Box 1329, Bangor, ME 04402; e-mail weekly@bangordailynews.net, or drop it off at the front desk of the Bangor Daily News, Buck Street entrance, marked “Weekly.”
Thanks for sharing your news with us. Please be with us in the new year as we celebrate our 32 communities.
Roxanne Moore Saucier is editor of The Weekly. Her Family Ties genealogy column runs Mondays in the Style section of the Bangor Daily News.
