Veazie police charged a man Thursday with assaulting his girlfriend and her mother Wednesday evening.

Officer Brian Sirois reportedly went to a Greystone Trailer Park residence at about 7 p.m. At the home, Joshua Zowghi, 21, reportedly had grabbed his girlfriend by the neck and pushed her mother before leaving the area, the report said.

Veazie police put out a bulletin on Zowghi. Officer Michael Adams said Zowghi called his girlfriend from his cellular phone Thursday. Adams called Zowghi back and, after learning the man was in Hermon, told him to turn himself in to Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Mallory at the Hermon Town Office.

Adams said Mallory handed Zowghi over to him at the Bangor police station, where he was released on $1,000 personal recognizance bail, in part because of the quarantine at Penobscot County Jail.

Bangor police arrested a man early Thursday after he allegedly threatened and assaulted his girlfriend, who had hidden his rum.

Officer Steve Jordan reported that just after midnight, he and Officer Michael Jewett went to an 18th Street address on a report of domestic assault. He said he arrived to hear a man’s slurred voice shouting.

Jordan met a man at the door and asked to speak with the complainant. The man, later identified as Richard Shain, directed Jordan upstairs. Jordan said he spoke with a woman who told him Shain had demanded to know where she hid his bottle of rum. When she wouldn’t tell, she said, Shain pushed her, ripped her shirt and pulled her hair. She said Shain also pushed her daughter out of the way to get to her.

Jordan arrested Shain.

Jordan said the woman added that Shain had made a gesture with his hands, indicating he was going to punch her, and that he had picked up the television as if to throw it.

Jordan said the woman was planning to marry Shain.

Shain denied assaulting anyone, Jordan said. Jordan noted that Shain was very intoxicated.

Brewer police arrested a man Wednesday night after a caller reported seeing a red van being driven all over the road.

Officer Jeff Gotreau stopped a van traveling toward town on North Main Street shortly before 9 p.m. He spoke with the driver, Samir Aboulsaad, 63, of Bangor. Gotreau said Aboulsaad’s license had been suspended. He also had an active warrant for failing to appear to answer a charge of operating after suspension.

Gotreau arrested Aboulsaad and charged him with operating after suspension.
