Man rolls truck, faces OUI charge

A Bradford man was charged with OUI and other offenses after his truck rolled over Friday evening in Corinth.

Deputy Mark Lloyd of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said that a truck went off the road and rolled over once on Route 15, across from Maine Savings Bank. Lloyd said the driver, Peter Gardiner, 34, of Bradford, reportedly was seen drinking at the Bradford General Store before the accident.

Lloyd said the cab of Gardiner’s truck was littered with beer bottles, and the vehicle had no plates. Gardiner’s license also was suspended, Lloyd said. Gardiner was charged with operating under the influence, operating after suspension and operating an unregistered vehicle more than 150 days.

A Winterport teenager was injured Friday night when her car slid off the road, snapping a telephone pole.

Deputy Jonah O’ Roak of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported at 8:10 p.m. on the Monroe Road, just over the town line from Hampden.

O’Roak said ice coating the Monroe Road was probably the main cause of the accident. The Toyota sedan went off the right side of the road. The left side of the car then struck a telephone pole, breaking it in two places and snapping a power line extending across the road.

It took rescue workers from the Winterport Fire Department almost an hour to free the driver from her car. O’Roak said that the driver, Abby Farnham, 17, of Winterport, who was the sole occupant, was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Brewer police summoned a Blue Hill woman Friday after she allegedly tried to steal shoes from Marden’s Department Store.

Officer Rodney Gerald reported that around 3:45 p.m. he went to the store and met with Elizabeth Grindle, 18, of Blue Hill, who had been caught by store security after she allegedly swapped her own shoes with shoes on the shelf.

Grindle was charged with theft.
