A dispute at an apartment building on Sunset Avenue late Saturday night resulted in the arrest of a Bangor man for domestic assault and criminal threatening.
Several Bangor police officers responded to a call at 11:35 p.m. from a neighbor of Jason E. Davenport, 25, of Bangor. The neighbor said Davenport was threatening a woman with a hammer in the adjacent apartment.
Bangor police Officer Eric Tourtillotte’s report said the suspect was engaged in an argument with his 20-year-old live-in girlfriend about why she didn’t spend Christmas with him. The couple also has a 20-month-old daughter.
The victim told officers that Davenport became upset, shouted for her to “get out of my sight,” and threw a beer can at her, after which she became scared and called her parents and then her next-door neighbor. The neighbor called 911 before going next door to see what was happening.
Davenport’s neighbor told police that when she entered the apartment, Davenport had come downstairs and was brandishing a roofing hammer. The neighbor tried to take the hammer from Davenport, according to Tourtillotte’s report, and Davenport finally left the apartment.
Officers Myron Warner, Shawn Green and Sgt. Paul Kenison, along with Tourtillotte, arrived to find Davenport outside. Tourtillotte’s report said Davenport was intoxicated.
Davenport was charged with domestic assault and criminal threatening and was taken to Penobscot County Jail. Tourtillotte’s report said the 20-month-old infant slept through the incident.
