Red Sox faltered

For many months now Red Sox fans have been tuned into radio, TV and have been reading the Boston Globe or Boston Herald hoping to hear news that Alex Rodriguez would become a member of their beloved Red Sox. All the baseball experts said this was a done deal, but right before Christmas the owners of the Red Sox said no to a deal that would have brought the best player in baseball to their organization.

This is a big example why the Yankees will always be a better organization than Boston. New York has always had an owner that no one likes, but he spends the money necessary to please himself and, more importantly, the Yankee fans. That’s why from an early age I left the Red Sox and became a New York Yankees fan.

My Christmas dreams usually come true while my Red Sox friends are scratching their heads wondering what could have been. You can bet your bottom dollar that if King George had been in charge in Beantown, this deal would have happened months ago. Boston could have made up any gap they had with the so-called money issue by marketing the best player to have played in Boston since Ted Williams. They didn’t have the courage to pull off this deal. They blame it on the union, A-Rod and the Rangers.

The bottom line here is that Red Sox management got cold feet when they should have just written the check. I know one person who is smiling from ear to ear as the New Year approaches. That person is George Steinbrenner. Mr. Steinbrenner makes Yankee fans’ dreams come true while the new Red Sox management just dangle a big carrot and then pull it away.

This was Boston’s chance to put the Yankees in their rear view mirror, but again they will play second fiddle to the Bronx Bombers. Remember, Red Sox fans, that winning isn’t everything… it’s the only thing, especially when you are battling the New York Yankees. Happy New Year!

Enjoyed Harvey

I was disappointed to hear of the recent decision of WLBZ to release Wayne Harvey as their sports director. I have had the pleasure of knowing this young man for many years. His work ethic and dedication to his job was commendable, and I thoroughly enjoyed the coverage he provided for the local area. I will certainly miss his nightly broadcasts, and I believe that there certainly is a place for him in his profession. I want to wish him the best of luck wherever he goes, and I wish WLBZ the best. I think it will be just a matter of time before you want him back!
