TOWNSHIP 18 – A mother of two from Meddybemps was killed Monday in a single-vehicle crash on Route 191 near the Marion Township line.

Marie Roderick, 29, was traveling toward East Machias shortly after 8 a.m. when she lost control of her 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser after hitting a patch of black ice and sand, state Trooper Jeff Ingemi said.

The car went sideways into a large rock and she was ejected. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Roderick was not wearing a seat belt but the vehicle’s air bags deployed.

State police were assisted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.

Correction: A shorter version ran in Final edition.
