Camden Hills upends Belfast in OT thriller

ROCKPORT – Kayla Gushee scored her only field goal of the game to open overtime and Camden Hills added four free throws to edge previously unbeaten Belfast 44-39 in a schoolgirl basketball game Tuesday evening.

Belfast’s Katelyn Ross had made one of two from the line with nine seconds left in the fourth quarter to cap the Lions’ rally from a 15-point third-quarter deficit and send the game into overtime.

Marianne Croce led Camden Hills to its sixth straight victory with 18 points and six steals.

Kate Bailey scored 12 points and Kaitlyn Murphy 10 for Belfast.

Ellsworth nailed 12 of their 16 free throws in the final period. Freshman Corey hit all four of his while senior Joey hit both of his. Andy Tracy scored 11 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, including three 3’s. He went five for seven from the charity stripe in the final period and pulled down 13 rebounds.

Tim Carter paced the GSA Eagles with 21 points. Chaz Gray chalked up 14 while Adam Lymburner added 10.

At Alfond Arena in Orono, Tom Smyth’s goal 6:44 into the second period proved to be the game-winner as the Red Riots earned the win.

Travis Bryant and John Tuell assisted on the winner, which gave Orono a 2-0 lead. Tuell scored the first goal off an assist from Chris McConnon. Keith Hedrick stopped 23 of 24 shots for the 6-2 Riots.

Kevin Brooks got the 2-4 Broncos within one goal in the second period. Jason Huntley assisted on the score and Rory Woods made 20 saves on 22 shots.
