DOVER-FOXCROFT – The two Foxcroft Academy students arrested last week in connection with a break-in at the school have been placed on indefinite suspension from school pending further review.

Ryan Porter, 18, of Dover-Foxcroft and a 16-year-old male juvenile each were charged with burglary and theft in connection with the break-in earlier this month. The pair allegedly broke a window to gain entry into the industrial arts building to get a set of acetylene torches, and then tried to use the torches to burn down an office door in hopes of reaching a safe inside the main building.

The pair allegedly later abandoned the torches and worked to tunnel their way to the safe. After moving a set of lockers from the wall, they used tools to pound their way through the brick and sheetrock wall and then crawled through the hole and into the safe, according to police.

About $1,000 in cash was taken from the safe and about $500 of that has been recovered, officials said. Five school credit cards also were taken.

“These types of offenses by students against the school carry with them the possibility of expulsion, if guilt is established,” John J. Brennan, associate headmaster for institutional advancement, said this week.

Brennan thanked the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department and the Maine State Police for their “swift and cooperative investigation” into the break-in.
