LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Tim Burke and Sarah Granroth won sprints Friday and qualified for the U.S. biathlon team at next month’s world championships.

Burke of Paul Smith’s, N.Y., was first in the 10-kilometer race, finishing in 33 minutes, 5.7 seconds. Granroth of Yarmouth, Maine, led the women’s 7.5-kilometer sprint in 24:35.7.

Jacob Beste of Minneapolis, and Denise Teela of Anchorage, Alaska, placed second in the men’s and women’s sprints. They also made the team for the world championships, which are scheduled for Feb. 6-15 in Oberhof, Germany.

Among other top finishers for the men were Mainers Walter Shepard of Yarmouth and Ben Kamilewicz of Orr’s Island.
