This column is the final report on the 2003 Santa’s Helper Fund. After the donations acknowledged today, we are pleased to say that we have raised $49,644.66, or 99 percent of our goal.

This is a tremendous effort, and all of us associated with this annual fund-raiser for The Salvation Army want to express our sincere appreciation for the kindness and generosity expressed by so many individuals, families, groups and organizations. Together, you have brought immeasurable joy into the lives of so very many needy people this holiday season.

Adding to the contributions are gifts from Carol Bailey, Tucson, Ariz., $30; Ed and Jean Marie Johnston, in memory of MAO, Milford, $25; Ruth Jellison, Southwest Harbor, $20; In memory of Eugene M. Kennedy from his family, Alton, $25; Anonymous, Brewer, $25; the Penobscot Cruising Club, Bangor, $75; Kelly and Michael Giles, Newburgh, $25; Richard and Brenda Knuthson, Kenduskeag, in memory of sister Rhonda Dugan Briggs, $25; Anonymous, Bangor, $250.; Nautical Products Corp., dba Mainely Buoys, Brewer, $50; and Christine and Robert Kilpeck, Castine, $50.

A name was misspelled in the Dec. 30 column. Andrew Neff made a donation in memory of his grandparents, Elbridge and Anna Hamm.

Thank you again for all contributions to the Santa’s Helper Fund. As always, it has been a heartwarming project and one we are pleased to be associated with each year.
