Orrington man crashes car while fastening seat belt

An Orrington man was injured after his car went off the road Tuesday night.

Deputy Kurt Adams of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said that Daniel Tripp, 22, of Orrington was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center after his car slid on an icy patch on Betts Road in Orrington and ended up in the ditch on the other side.

Adams said Tripp apparently was trying to fasten his seat belt at the time of the accident. Tripp’s head hit the windshield, Adams said, driving a lip ring into his lower gum. Adams did not believe there was any other injury.

A Bangor man was arrested Monday night after hospital staff complained that he was misusing ambulance services.

Bangor police Officer Shawn Green reported that at about 10 p.m. he went to the emergency room at St. Joseph Hospital and spoke with a nurse there. The nurse told Green that Robert Chestnut, 58, of Bangor had taken two ambulance rides to the hospital that night, complaining of chest pains, but left both times without receiving treatment.

Green said the nurse wanted to have Chestnut charged with filing a false report, but Green believed it would be hard to disprove a claim of chest pain. He did tell the nurse, however, that Chestnut was on conditional release, and that he was forbidden to drink.

When the nurse told Green that she believed Chestnut had been drinking, Green said he would investigate, and arrest Chestnut if he had violated his terms of release.

Green said he found Chestnut at home, with the smell of alcohol on his breath. After a sobriety test confirmed that Chestnut probably had been drinking, Green said, he took him to the hospital, where a doctor told him Chestnut was healthy enough to go to jail.

Green took Chestnut to Penobscot County Jail and charged him with violation of conditions of release. A breath test showed Chestnut did have alcohol in his system.

Old Town police arrested a man Monday night after he allegedly refused to quiet down.

Hashey said that after several warnings to quiet down, Jason Ouellette, 26, of Old Town was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Brewer police summoned a Millinocket man after he allegedly tried to steal boots Monday afternoon.

Officer Rodney Gerald reported that at about 5:20 p.m. he went to Marden’s, 564 Wilson St., where store security had Brandon McCue, 18, of Millinocket in custody. Gerald said McCue had been caught trying to wear an $80 pair of work boots out of the store.

Gerald also found a pillbox containing marijuana residue in McCue’s possession, he said. McCue was charged with theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A Greenbush man was arrested Monday afternoon after he allegedly shoved his wife.

Deputy Peter Stone of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department said that at about 3:30 p.m. he went to a Greenfield Road home, where a woman reported that her husband, Albert Glossian, 45, had pushed and shoved her early that morning. Stone and Sgt. Scott Young arrested Glossian, charging him with assault.
