Petrie leads Bears to sweep of UMF

BRUNSWICK – Kyle Petrie led the Bowdoin Polar Bears past the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers for the second time this season, 65-49, with 17 points in men’s college basketball action Tuesday.

T.J. McLeod added 13, and Jon Farmer had 11. Mark Yakavonis grabbed 14 rebounds.

Steve Ginn topped the Beavers with a dozen points, and Bob Deetjen had eight.

At Gorham, Caleb Sayward’s layup with 14 seconds remaining lifted the Huskies to the win.

Sayward finished with eight points. Mike Francoeur led Southern Maine with 16 while Jason Levecque and Bill Hardwick added 11.

Andrew Jenkins led the White Mules of Waterville with 20 points. Nick Loukes of Bangor notched 11 and Pat McGowan 10.

At Gorham, a 29-6 run midway through the game gave the University of Southern Maine Huskies a lead they’d never have to look back from as they notched their ninth win in 10 games.

Megan Myles led USM with 16 points and Camden’s Meg Cressler had 14. Tiffany Jones of Skowhegan and Katie Sibley each scored 11.

Sarah Kelly led the White Mules with 11 points.
