Penquis edges Schenck Perkins, Allen spark Patriots

EAST MILLINOCKET – Devin Perkins scored 24 points to help the Penquis Patriots hold off the Schenck Wolverines 47-41 in schoolboy basketball action Friday night.

Justin Allen added eight points for the Patriots of Milo as they notched their seventh victory.

Mark Hanington paced Schenck with 17 points.

Huckestein scored Orono’s first four goals and Smyth had two other assists. Derek Smith and Travis Bryan each had an assist. Keith Hedrick made 24 saves on 28 shots for the 8-2 Red Riots.

Mike Freesee, Adam Conway, Andy Robinson, and Dustin Colbry all netted a goal for 3-5 Foxcroft Academy. Derek Smith had two assists as Doug White and Mitch Sawyer both had one assist. Jon Catell stopped 37 of 42 shots.

At Newport, Jill Beal scored 13 of her 17 points in the first half to help the Broncos pull away from the Warriors.

Kim Stephenson chipped in with nine points and eight steals for the winners, and Tanna Ross had eight points and four steals.
