BANGOR – Husson College opened the second half of its men’s basketball season with a pair of weekend victories at Newman Gymnasium.

The Braves knocked off Johnson State 105-64 Sunday after defeating Castleton State 91-80 Saturday.

On Sunday, Guilford’s Buddy Leavitt led five Husson players in double figures with 21 points.

Freshman Tyler Muzzy of Greenville notched 18 points and 14 rebounds while Bill Beauregard scored 17 for Husson. Phil White chipped in with 13 and Matt Mulligan 12.

Frank Ponte led Johnson State with 17.

On Saturday, Ailey paced Husson with 25 points and six assists. Leavitt netted 21 points for Husson and Beauregard had 14. Muzzy had 10 points and eight boards.

Ben Davis scored 25 points for Castleton State. Sean Manovill had 18 points and nine rebounds and Joel Leitchnam had 12 points.

Thomas takes two

The Thomas College Terriers took two weekend games with a 56-30 win over Elms College Sunday and an 82-33 victory over Becker Saturday.

On Sunday, Tammy Fowler tossed in 13 points to lead the Terriers to a win on Sunday.

Amanda Godley chipped in with 11 for the winners while Heather Carter scored 10.

Tina Fontaine sparked Elms with 11.

On Saturday, Malorie LeClerc scored 20 points and Fowler 19 more to go with 11 rebounds.

Shauna Lessard contributed 18 for the winners.

On Sunday, Beth Ratner scored 17 points to help lead Castleton State past MMA.

Casey Wedge had 10 points for Castleton.

Shelly Gott of Mount Desert scored 14 points for the Mariners as Meghan Marshall added 11 points and had eight rebounds.

On Saturday, Gott collected a game- and career-high 23 points plus nine rebounds to lead the Mariners.

Katie Clapham added 15 for MMA and Marshall chipped in six points and 10 rebounds.

Husson wins pair of games

At Bangor, Husson College won two games over the weekend to improve to 7-2 with a 77-43 victory over Johnsont State Sunday and a 65-49 win over Castleton State Saturday.

On Sunday, Crystal Martin scored 19 points to give the Braves a win on Sunday.

Sarah Davis and Holly Gracie had 12 apiece for the winners while Shauna Mullenix had 10.

Lily Thomas had 13 to lead Johnson State.

On Saturday, Annie McIntosh netted 15 points and had nine rebounds to help Husson get the win.

Martin scored 12 points for the Braves and Stephanie Noyes added 10.

Casey Wedge led Castleton State with 16 points as Liz Martin and Beth Ratner each added 12 points.
